The 4th episode of the hit podcast, “Health Pod, Let’s Be Aware”, on Congenital Hypothyroidism (neonatal) has been uploaded to the top 3 most popular platforms. Despite the Pandemic, we continue our travels. This time, we travel in the uncharted – for many – waters of Congenital Hypothyroidism, which is the most frequent cause of psychomotor retardation of newborns.

Factors that can contribute to the good outcome of the disease include: family history, neonatal screening, TSH levels during Diagnosis, as well as the course of treatment (during the first 2-3 years). In Greece, Congenital Hypothyroidism has been included in the National Neonatal Screening Program after birth, while adjusting Thyroxine dosage is the A-Z of the proper development of a child.

But what is the reason? How often is the disease found? When does it cause severe neurodevelopmental morbidity? We will answer these question and discuss much more that parents should know.
